JanuaryThursday 21st January: Lecture “Hen Harriers in Ireland” by Barry O’Donoghue, NPWS Conservation Ranger. Saturday 23rd January: Three workshops on identification and recording in the Pump House at the Wexford Wildfowl Reserve: 2.00-2.30pm "Birds" with Simon Collins; 2.30-3.00pm "Plants" with Jim Hurley; 3.00-3.30pm "Butterflies and Moths" with Mary Foley, and 3.30pm-4.00pm discussion and open forum. FebruaryThursday 4th February: AGM at 7pm followed at 8pm by lecture "The Wales Weekend, September 2009" by Nicholas Egan, Member. Saturday 13th February: Fieldtrip to Tacumshin Lake with Killian Mullarney to see wintering waterbirds. Meet at 2pm in the car park at Sigginstown (T 062 063) immediately north of Sigginstown Island. MarchThursday 4th March: Lecture "The Work of the Irish Wildlife Trust" by Pádraic Fogarty, IWT Chair. Saturday 13th March: Fieldtrip to Trespan Rocks, Wexford town, to see spring plants in an urban environment with Dr Betsy Hickey, Ecologist. Meet at 10.30am (note change of time) outside "The Sailing Cot" pub at the traffic lights at the junction of William Street and The Faythe, Wexford town. AprilThursday 1st April: Lecture "Hedgerows and their conservation" by Lorcán Scott, NPWS District Conservation Officer. Saturday 10th April: Fieldtrip to the Snipe Fields, Wexford Wildfowl Reserve (WWR), to study pond life with Dominic Berridge, Warden. Meet at 2pm at the WWR car park (T 076 239). Thursday 15th April: Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) with regard to the club's role in recording the biodiversity of County Wexford. Meet at 7.30pm in the Pump House at the Wexford Wildfowl Reserve. Friday 30th April: Weekend trip to the Burren, Co Clare. MayThursday 6th May: Lecture "The Natural History of Tintern Abbey and Environs" by Jim Hurley, SWC Promotions. Saturday 8th May: Fieldtrip to Tintern Abbey for identification of wild flowers in small groups with Dominic Berridge, Zoë Devlin, Jim Hurley, Frankie Tennant, and Roy Watson. Meet at 2pm in the car park at Tintern Abbey (S 974 100), Saltmills. Thursday 20th May: Prize-giving ceremony for the annual WNFC Children's Art Competition, in association with Wexford County Council, at 2pm in the Visitor Centre at the Wexford Wildfowl Reserve. JuneThursday 3rd June: "An Introduction to the John F. Kennedy Arboretum" by Geoff Michael, OPW Park Superintendent, followed immediately afterwards by an old woodland walk to see trees and to hear late evening bird song. Meet in the reception area of the Visitor Centre of the Arboretum (S 727 193) at 8pm. Saturday 12th June: Nature walk along the River Barrow towpath from St Mullins to Graiguenamanagh with Edno Delaney. Meet at 2pm in the riverside car park at St Mullins (S 727 377), Co Carlow. This event is a joint outing with members of the Dublin Naturalists’ Field Club. JulyThursday 1st July: Lecture "Irish Trees: Myths, Legends and Folklore" by Niall MacCoitir, Folklorist. Saturday 10th July: Fieldtrip to Ballyteige Burrow to see (weather depending) bumblebees and solitary bees with Dr Úna Fitzpatrick, ecologist with the National Biodiversity Data Centre. Meet at 2pm in the seaside car park (S 964 031) opposite Wrights of Howth, Kilmore Quay. AugustThursday 5th August: Lecture "The Role of a Conservation Ranger" by Tony Murray, NPWS Conservation Ranger for South Wexford. Saturday 14th August: Nature walk on Carrigbyrne Hill with Roy Watson. Meet at 2pm in the car park at Carrigbyrne Hill (S 828 240) on the N25. SeptemberThursday 2nd September: Lecture "Habitats in the North Midlands" by Pádraig Comerford, NPWS Regional Manager – North East. Saturday 11th Setember: Nature trail through the sand dunes at Ballinoulart, Kilmuckridge, with Michael O'Donnell. Meet at 2pm in the car park at Ballinoulart (T 205 430). Saturday 16th October (note change of date): Coach outing to the Glen of Imaal, Co Wicklow, with Mary Foley for the autumn deer rut. Meet at 10am at the Riverside Park Hotel, Enniscorthy, and bring a packed lunch. Coach fare €12. Booking essential. Meet at 2pm at the entrance to Courtown Wood (T 200 563). DecemberThursday 2nd December: An evening of "Nature through Poetry" by Mary O'Brien, Member, and the Westgate Writers’ group. Saturday 11th December: Fieldtrip to Ardcavan Strand to see shoreline birds and landscape features with Dominic Berridge, Warden, Wexford Wildfowl Reserve (WWR).
